Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has once again reached the semifinals of a Masters 1000 after winning the Monte Carlo Masters in 2022. She has done it after beating Mackenzie McDonald in the quarterfinals of the
Canadian Open by 6-4, 6-2.
He started the first set losing his serve, but quickly recovered it, until he even managed to get ahead and ended up taking the first set by 6-4.
In the second set, he was overwhelming. With a 3-0 start with two breaks, he lost his serve but again responded to the moment, to get another break to take a 5-1 lead. McDonald held on with his serve but not with the Spanish, who closed for 6-2.
The winner of the match between Daniil Medvedev and Alex de Miñaur awaits him in the semifinals.
