One of the favourites for the event
Carlos Alcaraz is out of
Roland Garros getting beaten by
Alexander Zverev 6-4 6-4 4-6 7-6(7).
This was not a very good match from Carlos Alcaraz as he played the better part of it under his best level. Zverev on the other hand played his best match in the entire event and he was able to get the win here. He deserved it as he outplayed Alcaraz for the better part of it. He was aided by Alcaraz many times over as the Spanish player really struggled with a lot of things at the start of the match.
His groundstrokes were not on point, his serving was not that great, his movement was there but Zverev did not give him too many chances. The German was very solid on his own serve hitting it at a high rate not giving Alcaraz many chances. Carlos had 16 unforced errors in the first set and 16 in the 2nd set as well. The 3rd was a bit better but only towards the end.
He was able to mix things up and it coincided with a weak game from Zverev who gave him plenty of chances in that one. He was able to take it 6-4. In the 4th set, Alcaraz played superb tennis early on but Zverev was able to keep himself in it thanks to good serving and smart play. He got the break he needed at 4-4 with a chance to serve it out at 5-4. He failed and Alcaraz was up 6-5.
Zverev won his service game and we went into a tiebreak. It was one hell of a tiebreak between them as Zverev had a fairly decent chance of winning up early 2-0. Alcaraz made it 2-2 and then had a 6-5 lead serving for the set. He failed to close it out and Zverev was able to do it 9-7.
