On Wednesday, January 24, at 11:00 a.m. our time, Alexander Zverev will play his quarter-final match against Carlos Alcaraz at the Australian Open. So far, the German has done quite well, but has had to put up with several hours of play.
Zverev had already been on court for 13:47 hours, while his opponent only lasted 8:42 hours. "That's definitely an advantage for him," admits Zverev. "When you play less, you're fresher. I would much rather have won every match in three sets."
The two players last met in the quarter-finals of the US Open. "Sascha" lost this match 3:6, 2:6, 4:6 and some people may now remember this defeat. "I'm not in the same physical condition as I was at the US Open," Zverev counters. "To be honest, I expect it to be completely different. I'm not completely dead like in New York or have the feeling of being physically exhausted."
What's more, Zverev is counting on the location and the crowd to give him strength: "I think it also gives you energy when you play a quarter-final match against the second-best player in the world in the Rod Laver Arena in the evening. I hope it will be very fun and entertaining."
Zverez also relies on "more aces, fewer double faults, more winners, fewer easy mistakes."
