American
Star rushes onto the court with suitcase after a crazy race from another event.
The
Challenger Tour witnessed one of the most striking entrances in recent
times when Ryan Seggerman (No. 400) raced across Europe just in time.
The
25-year-old tennis player arrived at his match with his suitcase after
traveling from one tournament to another in under 24 hours. On Saturday,
Seggerman lost his doubles final alongside Poland’s Szymon Walkow against Guido
Andreozzi and Theo Arribage 2-6, 1-6 at the Szczecin Challenger in Poland.
Seggerman
then quickly traveled from Poland to France, more than 1,600 kilometers (over
1,000 miles). He needed two flights, a train, and a car to make it to the
qualifying round of the St Tropez Challenger.
According
to journalist Damian Kust, the American player was scheduled to leave his hotel
in Poland at 4:30 am to fly to Marseille, with a stopover in Berlin. After
landing in France, he needed a train to reach a location where tournament
officials could pick him up.
The rush didn’t allow Seggerman to stop at his
hotel, so he headed straight to the court with his suitcase, and the Challenger
Tour cameras captured his remarkable arrival.
His efforts
paid off as he secured a win against local player Arthur Reymond in the first
round of the qualifiers. However, in his second match against Eliakim
Coulibaly, Seggerman couldn’t finish the contest, retiring while trailing 1-6,
2-2.
