Jannik
Sinner adds new faces to his team, including two former members of Novak
Djokovic's team.
The world No. 1 announced the new additions to his team on social media,
sharing a photo alongside Marco Panichi, fitness coach, and Ulises Badio,
physiotherapist.
The news
comes after Sinner parted ways with two members of his team amidst the doping
case controversy. Shortly before the start of the US Open, the Italian player
revealed two positive tests for clostebol in March during Indian Wells,
although the ITIA declared him innocent and he faced no suspensions.
An
independent tribunal concluded that the minuscule trace of clostebol in
Sinner’s body could have been due to his physiotherapist inadvertently rubbing
it on his skin. Giacomo Naldi had been using a spray to treat a cut on Sinner's
finger, and it was likely that this spray contained the substance. The fitness
coach, Umberto Ferrara, had recommended using the spray.
Consequences
quickly followed in Sinner’s team, as he recently dismissed both members. The
2-time Grand Slam champion confirmed the new additions, featuring two familiar
faces from the top level, as two former members of
Novak Djokovic's team joined
the Italian’s support staff.
These are
Marco Panichi, fitness coach, and Ulises Badio, physiotherapist. Both worked
with Djokovic until a few months ago, when Nole decided to make changes to his
team following poor results, which led to the departure of his head coach Goran
Ivanisevic, as well as Panichi and Badio.
Sinner
announced the news with a photo on social media: "Welcome to the team
Marco and Ulises," he shared along with a picture of the three. During
recent tournaments, the 23-year-old player had only been traveling with his
main coaching duo, Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi.
