The fabled 10,000 ranking point mark is very challenging to reach to, with only the greatest ATP players being able to camber that high. In recent times Jannik Sinner has proven to be worthy of this, with him becoming just the second player ever to surpass the target in consecutive seasons since the new points system was introduced in 2009.
It was confirmed after his Paris Masters triumph, defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets for his first success in the French capital, and fifth title in 2025. He has the chance to gain even more ranking points this calendar year, with the season coming to a close in Turin at the ATP Finals. The Italian came out on top last year in a dominant showing, with him determined to perform to the same standards in front of an adoring home crowd.

Sinner reaches new heights

When you look back at Sinner's campaign, it is surprising that he has accumulated as many points as he has done, with the 24-year-old having to serve a suspension for three months of it. This brings up a whole host of what-if questions in terms of how many points he would currently be sitting on if he completed the Sunshine Double or the full clay swing. By this point, he had already won his first Grand Slam title of the year, defeating Alexander Zverev in straight sets to reclaim his Australian Open title.
His return to tennis came conveniently in the Rome Open, where after a close first set, he was blown away by a rampant Carlos Alcaraz in the second. A similar fate would bestow him in the Roland Garros final, where he squandered match points and a two-set lead to the Spaniard in one of the greatest tennis matches ever played.
He got back on track by executing his revenge at Wimbledon, clinching more ranking points along the way. Despite all the points he had collected, Alcaraz was a step ahead of him. He defeated Sinner in Cincinnati before swiping the US Open title away from his to steal back the world number one spot. This would not faze Sinner, who won titles in Beijing and Vienna before collecting his first Masters 1000 title of the year in Paris. Currently, he sits on 10,000 ranking points, with more poised to be added on subject to his performance in Turin.

Djokovic holds unassailable lead

Novak Djokovic will be looking at this achievement from Sinner with a little smirk on his face. While this feat is hugely impressive, the Serbian has completed it five times on the spin between 2011 and 2016, showcasing his ridiculous consistency and dominance in the sport. In this period, he won 11 Grand Slam titles while making another seven finals. He also won the ATP Finals between 2012-2015, and collected a plethora of Masters 1000 titles. His most successful year came in 2015, as he reached an astonishing 16,585 points. This was aided by the three Grand Slam triumphs along with the final at Roland Garros, eight Masters 1000 finals with six victories and ATP Finals success at the end of the year.
No one has even got close to this staggering sum. Aside from Djokovic's 2011 campaign (13,630), Rafael Nadal comes closest to matching this performance in 2013 with 13,030. He surpassed the 10,000 mark in 2010 and 2017 as well, with his arch-rival Roger Federer completing the task in 2009 and 2012.
Andy Murray joins the Big Three on the list, with his iconic 2016 season racking him up 12,410 points. This was enough to propel him to number one in the world before injuries derailed his career. Aside from Djokovic, Alcaraz and Sinner are the only active players to have done this. Similar to Sinner, the Spaniard has the chance to collect more points in what has been a hugely successful season. He sits ahead of Sinner with 11,050 points, but cannot boast it in consecutive campaigns, unlike his bitter foe.
