Bianca Andreescu overcame a very tricky matchup in Bad Homburg beating Katie Swan in straight sets 6-4 6-4 to move on.
The Canadian player played really strong tennis in Berlin last week but was unable to turn that into a win over Karolina Pliskova. Adnreescu served for the match and had match points but it didn't work out. Today, against another tricky player, things went much better.
Andreescu broke Swan in the opening game of the match but gave the serve right back with a poor serving game. Andreescu faced some issues after that but she was able to hold her serve and eventually she took the 4-3 lead. From there it was a simple road to finish off the first set with 6-4.
Both of them were pretty solid after hitting their opening serve but Andreescu was much better after the 2nd serve. That was the main difference in the match and essentially what allowed Andreescu to win the match. The difference was particularly striking in the 2nd set with Swan winning only 3 of 15 2nd serve points played.
Despite all of that, the British player was able to keep her serve for the most part except for one game. That game sealed the 2nd set for Andreescu 6-4. A good win for Bianca who is looking fairly solid on grass.
