Andrey Rublev was one of the players that expressed doubt over the vaccine noting that he would only get vaccinated if he had to.
Well, the
Australian Open is seemingly doing the public quite a favour by making many of the tennis players that had doubts over the vaccine get vaccinated. The event imposed a mandatory vaccination for players coming into Australia which prompted many of the players that did not want to get vaccinated before to do so.
Stefanos Tsitsipas was the first to announce he would get vaccinated, he was then followed by Dominic Thiem who also publicly confirmed. Daniil Medvedev elected to keep his vaccination status private but the Russian is expected to get vaccinated whether he discloses it or not. And now, Andrey Rublev officially confirmed he would get vaccinated but he would do so in the offseason.
Speaking with the Russian outlet Tass Rublev said:
"The situation with Australia is such that if the players want to participate without quarantine, they must be vaccinated. If you don't get the vaccine, then just sit in the room for two weeks and that's it. In my case, I'll get vaccinated. And whoever doesn't want, I think, will miss the tournament."
