The third edition of the Battle of the Brits Premier League of Tennis takes place at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton between December 20-23 on an indoor court.
Roehampton hosts the British finest players in the round-robin four-day action behind the closed door and with no spectators. In the most anticipated encounter of the Sunday's program on Court 3, the three-time Major champion Andy Murray ousted the top-ranked Brit Daniel Evans 7-6, 6-4 for a winning start.
Andy saved six break points in the opening set, wasted his opportunities on the return at 6-5 and won the breaker 7-5 for a massive boost. Carried by that momentum, a former world no. 1 grabbed an early break in set number two, keeping the lead until game ten when he brought the encounter home. Evans wasted a 40-0 advantage on the return in game five of the opener, with three more break opportunities gone at 5-5 that could have sent him in front.
In another twist in the tale, Andy squandered three set points on the return in game 12 but kept the focus in the tie break to claim in 7-5 following a service winner. The more experienced player converted the fifth break chance in the second set's opening game, serving well and earning a match point in game nine. Evans fended off that one and three more in the next one and created two break chances, denied by Andy, who seized the fifth match point with an unreturned serve to kick off the campaign with a win.
