Andy Murray played a great match to take down an excellent indoor hard court player in Ugo Humbert in front of his native crowd 4-6 6-3 6-2.
The win was impressive in many ways but the fact that Murray came back to win against a player who is an excellent indoors player in front of his fans is great to see. The level Murray produced against Tsitsipas seemed not like a one-off and even if today was not as high as that it was very impressive. Murray played great from the start forcing Humbert to saved 5 break points in the first set which he did.
He played one weaker game at the finish of the set and that was enough for Humbert to take the opening set. Murray did not get discouraged and continued playing well applying a lot of pressure on Humbert. The Brit served better than Humbert throughout the match and it proved crucial in key moments. He won the 2nd set with 6-3 by winning 90 % of his first serves.
Humbert completely collapsed in the 3rd set losing any ability to hit his first serve and Murray took advantage of it. He attacked his weaker 2nd set and it proved fruitful as he took a 4-0 lead that almost guaranteed him the victory. Humbert, as great as he is, largely depends on his serve and today he didn't have it.
Murray finished it off with 6-2 completing a very good match for him where he hit 18 aces winning 85 % of his first serves (dropped only 8 points), saving 6 out of 7 break points he faced and committing only 3 double faults. A very good match indeed and Murray moves on after the upset.
