Andy Murray is finishing up his 2021 season at the
Stockholm Open and in his first match, there was a stellar display against Durasovic 6-1 7-6(7).
It's been a solid few months for Andy Murray who is back to playing good tennis consistently. While not yet good enough to challenge the best of the best Murray was able to win consecutive matches at several events in the row proving his level fo tennis to be good enough for the top 50. In order to get there, Murray needs to gather points and that is why he travelled to Stockholm where he will end his 2021 season.
The match was a brilliant one from Murray against an opponent who really can't keep up with Murray. Durasovic is mainly a player who had his success on the ITF level winning 7 trophies overall. He never won a challenger event despite playing on in that level for quite some time as well. From the start, it was obvious that Murray was a much better player.
As someone ranked outside the top 300 Durasovic founds himself quite easily overmatched by Murray. The Norwegian tried to play attacking tennis but he never faced someone as defensively sound as Murray and he showed. Not being able to outsmart his opponent he tried to do too much and that resulted in errors, a lot of them.
Murray took the first set with 6-1 after we had a bit of a more competitive 2nd one. Murray was still able to take an early lead but his opponent found a way to come back into the match. After pulling back the break and making it 3-3 Durasovic started playing much better. He was able to hold his serve rather easily forcing a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Murray was finally able to break down his opponent to close out the match.
