Andy Murray started his match against Shapovalov on Tuesday but he finished it on Wednesday about 30 minutes after midnight 6-1 3-6 6-2.
It was a very exciting affair between two players that were fairly even for the majority of the match. The score indicates that Murray smashes Shapovalov in two sets but it was much closer than the score would indicate. Murray was better in two sets while Shapovalov was better in the 2nd set. Overall it's been quite a strong week for Murray who created outrage when he accepted another wild card entry.
Many thought he did not deserve it but he is proving that he is still capable of some top tennis on clay. The first set was a very interesting one as Murray won it with 6-1 mainly by dominating on his own serve. He did not serve well but he was completely outplaying his opponent fairly easily. Shapovalov upped his game in the 2nd set and it resulted with a 6-3 2nd set victory.
The 3rd set was quite the opposite. Both started well and it was 2-2 when Murray upped his game determined to win the match and he was able to break Shapovalov for the 5-2 lead. He then broke his opponent once more to finish off the match with 6-2.
