The three-time Major champion Andy Murray kicked off the third Battle of the Brits Premier League of Tennis in Roehampton with a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Daniel Evans on Sunday.
On Tuesday, former world no. 1 scored the second win from as many encounters in his last competition of the season, ousting Cameron Norrie 6-4, 7-6 in two hours and 17 minutes. Andy grabbed a break in the encounter's first game, fended off four break chances at 3-2 and closed the opener with a hold at love in game ten for 6-4.
Murray stole Norrie's serve in the opening game when a left-hander netted a forehand and held at love in game two with a service winner to cement the advantage and open a 2-0 gap. Cameron repelled a break point in game five to remain within one break deficit and created four break opportunities in the next one.
Remaining calm, Andy fended off four break points and forced Cameron's error to move 4-2 ahead. Serving for the set, Murray produced a hold at love with an unreturned serve in game ten, taking the opener 6-4 in just under 50 minutes. Like in the first set, Andy grabbed a break at the beginning of the second, saving two break chances in the next one before Cameron broke back in game four following Andy's double fault.
Murray saved another break point in game six to end his downfall, facing a set point at 5-6 and erasing it with a forehand winner. Andy opened a 2-1 lead in the tie break with a forehand down the line winner and stayed 4-3 ahead with a booming serve. Norrie won the next point with a smash winner to level the score before hitting a double fault that sent Andy 5-4 in front. A service winner earned two match points for Murray, converting the second with a perfect lob winner to move over the top.
