Andy
Roddick spoke about
Andy Murray's exit from the Miami Open after losing to
Tomas Machac in the third round. The former American tennis player expressed
that it was inspiring to see Murray, and that his commitment to competition
enhances his legacy.
The
Scottish 3-times Grand Slam champion mentioned a month ago that his retirement
is likely to be this year after the European summer, and he dreams of playing
in the Olympics again.
Murray's
recent years have been particularly challenging due to hip surgeries, at one
point thinking he might never play sports again. However, he managed to return
to high-level competition and left several epic battles in recent years.
Andy
Roddick recently commented on Tennis Channel, expressing his appreciation for
Murray and highlighting that despite not achieving the same results as in his
prime, he continues to elevate his legacy as one of the greatest tennis players
in history:
“Since 2019
with the hip issue, he would tell you that he's not been the same. But the guts
of him has been the same. Even if he used to turn these matches and pull them,
lately, he hasn't been able to.”
“The drama
is still there, the fight is still there. In a way, this compromised version of
Murray almost adds to his legacy with the way he's grinded out the last four or
five years,”
Andy Roddick claimed.
“I
certainly respect it; I don't know if I or a lot of us could've done it. So,
props to him if it is the last time we see him in Miami. It's been a hell of a
run, pal,” he added.
