For the final time,
Andy Murray stepped out on court at the
Miami Open as he was defeated by
Tomas Machac 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 in an unfortunate conclusion as the former World No.1 rolled his ankle en route to defeat, but he soaked up adulation from the crowd after he left the court.
Murray admitted post match that he is looking forward to the end now and spending time with his family. After months of being bombarded by the press surrounding his future, he finally admitted that he won't play past the Summer leading likely to a Wimbledon farewell and that tour made its stop in Miami.
โI wasnโt thinking about all the matches I played. Just more that thatโs the last match that I am going play here which is sad because I love it here,โ the three-time Grand Slam winner said. โIโve spent so much of my tennis career here and I would have liked it to have gone on a little bit longer.
โThis tournament in particularly for me is an important one so it was a bit more emotional leaving the court today than it might be at some of the other events.
โI am looking forward to the end now, give my best the next few months and get to be at home with my family.โ
โMiami has been a special place for me during my career. Itโs been my tennis home really. Iโve done so much of my work and training and preparation here. I love the city.โ
Winning back-to-back matches for the first time since the Canadian Open last August, he also leaves with some pride. โItโs been pretty positive, there were some good signs in my game, definitely an improvement on the last few tournaments, not perfect but considering everything to be winning matches against the players I did and pushing Thomas like I did today, Iโm proud of myself because itโs extremely difficult to do what Iโm doing with the issue that I have,โ he said.
โTo still be able to compete with these guys is a credit to myself and the work that Iโve done and the effort that Iโve put into this to keep myself in this position.โ
