Andy Murray's family support on final Wimbledon appearance boosts morale

Former world number one Andy Murray has revealed that it was a ‘boost’ to have his mom and wife present in the crowd to watch his final appearance at Wimbledon. The 37-year-old is often regarded as the greatest British player in the singles category of men’s tennis history.

Murray recently played in his last-ever Wimbledon, and he has already announced that he will finally retire from professional tennis after the Summer Olympics. The Glasgow-born star was recently quoted in a report in which he talked how special it was to have his wife and mother in the stands during his final appearance with his brother Jamie Murray. The two suffered a defeat in the first round of the doubles event.

“I think my mum actually finds it quite stressful! And Kim,” he said. “I don’t think I’m that easy to watch all the time. No, really it's great having them supporting and I’m so grateful that they've spent so much time watching me over the years. Just knowing they are in the crowd gives me a huge boost.”

Murray has struggled with fitness concerns throughout his career. This is why he announced his retirement in 2018 after the Australian Open. However, the 37-year-old miraculously returned to the court soon after and continued to play for the next six years. This year, Murray once again struggled with fitness concerns. He had an ankle injury earlier that ruled him out of action for two months.

During that time, Murray announced that he was considering retirement from professional tennis after Wimbledon and Paris Olympics. His plans of playing for the final time in the singles category on home soil at Wimbledon halted as he suffered a serious injury during the Queen’s ATP Championship. That injury forced him to undergo surgery, costing him a spot in the singles category. Murray was also due to play in the mixed doubles category but his partner Emma Raducanu withdrew from the competition because of a wrist injury.
