Tennis coach
Brad Gilbert has refused to comment on former
world number one
Novak Djokovic’s recent clashes with the fans in the arena. The
37-year-old is often regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s
tennis in the singles category, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles.
Djokovic recently participated in
Wimbledon 2024, where he was slightly upset about facing a hostile environment in the match against Denmark’s Holger Rune. He came out on top in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. After the match, the Belgrade-born star was very critical of the fans’ behaviour and stated, “I have played in a much more hostile environment.”
Gilbert, who is a renowned tennis coach, refused to comment on
the developments and suggested that he is very impressed with Djokovic's performance, especially after the recent knee injury. “I would focus on his tennis,”
he said. “His tennis is incredible, considering that he has only been operated
on just five weeks before. During the whole week of training, I have seen him
improve a little bit every day. Almost no player could be in this situation
with the rapid change that the operation has brought about. That is the most
surprising thing.”
Djokovic is going through
a brutal campaign. Things went from bad to worse for the Serb when he suffered a knee injury during the French Open, which forced him to withdraw just before the quarterfinal against Norway’s Casper Ruud. The world number two underwent a knee surgery following that injury, which cast doubts about whether he will participate in the mega-events such as Wimbledon. Djokovic, however,
not only returned to the court just weeks after knee surgery at Wimbledon but
also went all the way to the final, where he lost to Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in straight
sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6.
