Former World No.1
Andy Roddick is of the impression that
Novak Djokovic is the only player who can go toe-to-toe on hard courts with
Daniil Medvedev, who defeated the Serbian to win his maiden Grand Slam at the 2021 US Open.
Medvedev has been near-unstoppable on hard courts this year, lifting titles at the Cincinnati Masters and Marseille. Furthermore, the Russian won his first Major title in New York, in addition to finishing runner-up at the Australian Open and Paris Masters.
"I think Novak's probably the only guy and vice versa that can go toe-to-toe consistently, stay in rallies with the other one," said Roddick in an appearance on the Tennis Channel. "It's become such an interesting cat and mouse between the two of them."
On hard courts this year, the World No.2 has been winning more return points than anyone else in the top-5. Additionally, Medvedev has been winning more than 90 percent of his first serve points. The Russian reached the final of the 2021
ATP Finals for the second consecutive year, finishing runner-up to
Alexander Zverev.
