The tennis world has experienced many emotional moments in this 2024 and one of them was the celebration of the farewell match of Juan Martin del Potro, who played the last match of his fantastic career against none other than Novak Djokovic. Andy Roddick shared his thoughts on the Argentinean's career and the Serbian's gesture of accompanying him in his tribute.
In his podcast, "Served with Andy Roddick", the former world No. 1 closely followed the farewell match of La Torre de Tandil that took place in Parque Roca, Buenos Aires.
A-Rod praised the Serb's attitude to stand by his great friend:
"But what a gesture! To say 'I'm going to do this for you because I respect you.' We all empathize with Juan Martin and what he's been through with injuries."
"So Novak flies to Argentina, plays a farewell night in front of 15,000 people for one of the most beloved players in the sport," Roddick added about the 24-time Grand Slam trophy winner's attitude.
"Novak got nothing out of it materially, except that it was simply an act of kindness, and he should be commended for that. Yes, he should be. He has been, and this is not surprising coming from him."
Regarding Delpo's career, the 2003 US Open champion did not hesitate:
"Without those injuries, he would have had a career like Murray. He was so good. He would have won more Grand Slams. He's better than players like me. He was, I mean, he could hit from both sides."
"I could beat the Big Three by playing their best tennis. Some of us needed to play our best tennis and a little help from them. He could dominate the court with his forehand.
"When his forehand was on point, it was the best shot on the court. You could literally hit a good ball to him and you knew there was a chance you'd become a dummy watching the ball go by you on the next shot."
