Arthur Fery was absolutely delighted and honoured to get the chance to once more represent his country on the biggest stage. He will lead Great Britain in the
Davis Cup qualifier against Ecuador, but there is a huge void left in the squad with
Jack Draper having not yet been picked.
The matchup format is best-of-five sets with it spanning two days on 19 and 20 September, with two singles matches on day one. Day two features a doubles match followed by two singles encounters. It will be hosted on home soil at the London's Copper Box Arena.
Fery has already represented his country in the
Davis Cup before against Poland in September 2025, beating Olaf Pieczkowski in straight sets to help seal progress to the 2026 Qualifiers. However, he is in a completely different position now.
That Wimbledon run to the semi-finals was a hugely brilliant occasion that has launched him up the rankings. Currently competing in the
Cincinnati Open, he will have the Davis Cup firmly on his mind.
Fery leads Great Britain as Draper left out
Fery could not contain his excitement with him relishing this golden opportunity to represent his country. "I am really proud to be able to represent GB again," Fery said. "It is going to be a bit of a different scenario this time, at home, in the World Group and trying to qualify for the final eight. There might be some extra pressure, but I'm ready for it."
His improvement as of late has astounded many tennis fans with the Brit's Wimbledon campaign set to do wonders to his tennis career. With a lot of British talent faltering or suffering with injuries, it is now Fery's time to step up and lead his country to possible glory.
Team captain Leon Smith was also over the moon to have Fery on board. "We know Ecuador will be right up for the challenge, so to be able to call on our top two singles players and two of the world's best doubles players - all of whom have had good results in recent weeks - gives us a great chance of securing the win."
Arthur Fery will once more compete for his country in the Davis Cup
Britain can already pose a very strong team. Cameron Norrie will also play in the singles with the extremely talented and decorated doubles players Henry Patten and Lloyd Glasspool brings the tally to four.
There are questions in if Draper is able to get in the side. The former World No.4 has been struggling for form due to his torrid injury spell as of late and will be hopeful to sort it out. At his best he is the number one name on the team sheet, but for the time being he may be forced to sit back and watch his compatriots following in the footsteps of the women.
There is still one more spot up for grabs, and that could go the way of Draper depending on his condition among other factors.
