Aslan Karatsev made a winning start to his grass-court season by defeating Alejandro Tabilo 3-6 6-3 6-2.
The breakout star of the Australian Open made a winning start at the cinch Championships in Queen's Club. The man from Russia is currently the 3rd best ranked Russian which guarantees him a spot at the Olympics. He will look to bolster his position with a good run on the grass.
Against Tabilo, a noted clay-court specialist it was a shaky start. The Russian needed some time to get going on the green surface and two bad service games in the first set cost him. He lost it 3-6 but he was able to compose himself in the next two. Tabilo did not allow a break point in the first set but that changed in the 2nd.
As soon as Karatsev had a chance he used it to break Tabilo and from there it was easy to win the set 6-4. Tabilo held his own for the majority of the 2nd set but once broken late there was no way of coming back. Karatsev kept applying the pressure in the 3rd set.
The Chilean had no answer for Karatsev and his shot-making and quickly found himself behind 1-5. From there, the Russian was on cruise control and finished it off with 6-2.
