Zverev leads Germany to the United Cup title
The former world No. 2 played a crucial role in the men's singles throughout the tournament. He began with a comeback against Lorenzo Sonego (6-7, 6-3, 6-4) and then faced Adrian Mannarino (4-6, 6-4, 6-3). In the knockout stages, he secured a crucial victory over
Stefanos Tsitsipas (6-4, 6-4) to keep Germany alive and advance to the semifinals, where he suffered his first defeat against the surprising Alex De Minaur (5-7, 6-3, 6-4). In the final, his triumph over
Hubert Hurkacz (6-7, 7-6, 6-4), even saving two match points against him (6-7, 7-6, 6-4), was instrumental.
In addition to the singles matches, the 26-year-old also played mixed doubles in all ties. During the group stage, he partnered with the former world No. 1 Angelique Kerber against Italy (6-3, 6-0) and faced the only defeat for the Germans in mixed doubles against France (6-7, 6-1, [10-12]). From the quarterfinals onward, his partner was Laura Siegemund, and they ended with victories against Greece (6-3, 6-3), Australia (7-6, 6-7, [15-13]), and against Poland in the final for the championship (6-4, 5-7, [10-4]).
