Carlos Alcaraz is likely not to be World No.1 for much longer as despite starting his 22nd consecutive week as top dog, he is likely to be bumped down to World No.2 in seven days time in a week that has otherwise been very rewarding for Spaniards.
Alcaraz has been sitting at the top since last October where he overtook Jannik Sinner but the Italian is now on the verge of overtaking him going into the Monte-Carlo Masters. The Spaniard heads into the ATP Masters 1000 tournament with a 1,190 point advantage but he will drop 1,000 points as the defending champion.
This comes into an interesting period before Rome as Sinner didn't play last year due to his doping ban so he defends nothing while Alcaraz is playing most tournaments seemingly in a bid to remain at the top.

Chasm from top two

Sinner will overtake him if he outperforms his rival by reaching the latter stages of the tournament albeit it matters little when it comes to the rest of the rankings. There is a huge gap opening up even further with the World No.3 with Alexander Zverev more than 7,000 points adrift of Sinner with Djokovic who barely plays and won't be in Monte-Carlo still World No.4.
Lorenzo Musetti rounds out the top five. There was change in the top 10 with Ben Shelton who reached the Quarter-Finals in Houston sitting pretty in World No.8 as the new US No.1. Fritz also will likely leak more points as he won't play this week in Monte-Carlo.
JodarMiami
Rafael Jodar continues his rise.
Flavio Cobolli is down to World No.16 down three spots after withdrawing from his Bucharest title defence. Spanish joy though for Daniel Merida who jumped 35 spots to World No.101 after losing to Mariano Navone in the final.
While a potential future star emerged in Rafael Jodar. THe 19-year-old won Grand Prix Hassan II winning his maiden ATP singles title. He jumped 32 places to a new career high of World No.57 while Trungelliti has become the oldest player to break the top 100 as his run to the final earned him a 41 place rise to World No.76. Tommy Paul also went up three spots to World No.18 after winning hOuston.
