Auger-Aliassime admits to receiving congratulatory message from Federer after Rotterdam title win

After winning his maiden ATP title at the ABN AMRO WTT Rotterdam tournament on Sunday, Felix Auger-Aliassime disclosed he had received congratulatory messages from several tennis players, one of which was Roger Federer.

Auger-Aliassime defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets to lift his first ATP title after eight previous unsuccessful attempts, with the Canadian enjoying the moment with his team before video calling his father to enjoy it with him.

The 21-year old would go on to reveal that he received several messages of support from fans and players alike, with none other than 20-time Grand Slam champion Federer messaging him soon after the win.

“It’s true!” Auger-Aliassime told We Love Tennis on Instagram Live. “Roger [Federer] sent me a little message.

“He just told me in English ‘I’m happy for you, well done."

Coincidentally, the pair share the same birthday of August 8, with Federer being exactly 19 years older than Auger-Aliassime. Furthermore, both men have clashed on the ATP Tour on only one occasion, with the Canadian defeating his Swiss opponent in three sets during their Round of 16 encounter in Halle last year.
