It was a night to forget for
Felix Auger-Aliassime, who could not get anything going in his second round loss to
Jack Draper at the
US Open.
Draper was in complete control during the entire match, looking very confident as he pulled off a 6-4 6-4 6-4 victory. The rising British star was superb on serve, winning 37 of 44 points behind his first serve. Furthermore, he saved all three break points faced, relying on precision to bail himself out of trouble.
After reaching the quarterfinals at both the Canadian Open and Winston-Salem this summer, Draper has emerged as a deep threat at this year's US Open. The 20-year old employs a game of big serves and relentless approaches to the net, a strategy that was successful against Auger-Aliassime. The British youngster won 19 of 23 points at the net, as his higher-ranked opponent was unable to get much past him.
A break in each set was sufficient for the 20-year old Sutton native to secure the victory, as he ensured his spot in the third round after two hours and 28 minutes. Awaiting him in the next round is
Karen Khachanov, as the 27th seed survived Brazilian Thiago Monteiro earlier in the day.
