The
Australian Open quarantine plan faces a legal challenge from a luxury Melbourne Hotel.
A turn in the events leading up to the impending Australian Open could be a legal challenge by the owners of a luxury Melbourne Hotel which was designated by the organizers as a place where players would quarantine ahead of the event. The reason is safety as the hotel owners never agreed to host so many international players during the pandemic.
The lawyer representing the Hotel said:
“My instructions are to get an injunction. So at this stage, that’s where we’re going. No-one has told us that this has been mandated by a government authority to turn a partly residential city hotel into a quarantined hotel."
So far Tennis Australia has no responded to the newspaper request and the situation might get complicated as the owners believe they have grounds for a lawsuit. If it goes ahead it might be a small hitch in the Australian Open plan but it's unlikely it will derail the event from going ahead. We will have more as the situation unfolds.
