The Austrians defeated the team of Argentina when they did not lose any of the 3 matches and earned the first point in Group E.

It was not an ideal start to the ATP Cup for Austria when they lost to Croatia 3-0 in their first tie. Now, Austria faced Argentina after Croatia earned their 2nd point at the ATP Cup.
Dennis Novak was the first to play for his country again as he faced Guido Pella. But it was not a good beginning for the Austrian. He lost the first set 0-6 in just 29 minutes. However, he was able to fight in the second set to level the score after he has won it 6-4. In the third set, Novak converted his 3rd breakpoint to earn the lead and won the set 6-4 again to give Austria 1-0 lead in tie against Argentina.
World number 4, Dominic Thiem faced Diego Schwartzman in the second matchup. After Thiem lost to Coric in his first match in Australia, he wanted to defeat Schwartzman to give his country the victory. And he managed to do his job perfectly. After less than 2 hours, Thiem triumphed 6-3, 7-6 and Austria could celebrate their first point.
Now, when Austrians don't have everything in their own hands, they need the best score possible, in order to be able to advance among the best 8. Therefore, in doubles, they had still a lot to play for. Marach & Melzer faced Gonzalez & Molteni and they did not give them a chance. The Austrian duo defeated their opponents 6-1, 6-4 after 72 minutes.
