Djokovic leads Serbia to second victory at ATP Cup

Serbia defeated France in their second tie at the 2020 ATP Cup and secured the spot among the best 8 in Australia.

Novak Djokovic proved himself once again as a great leader. This time he led the team of Serbia to a 2-1 victory over France at the ATP Cup. After Serbia defeated South Africa previously, they could secure the spot in the quarterfinals today.
However, the day did not started ideally for them. Dusan Lajovic faced Benoit Paire in the first match of the tie. The Frenchman had a better start as he has won the first set 6-2 in just 32 minutes. But Lajovic fought back from being 5-3 down in the second set and forced the 3rd set. But Paire was better again and got France 1-0 lead.
World number 2, Novak Djokovic had to play his best tennis for his country in order to deliver two needed points. First, he faced Gael Monfils in singles. Djokovic did not hesitate when he defeated the Frenchman 6-3 and 6-2 in 92 minutes to force the decisive doubles.
It was once again that doubles decided the tie at the ATP Cup. Now, Novak Djokovic and Viktor Troicki faced Nicolas Mahut and Eduard Roger-Vasselin. The beautiful match brought almost everything in 3 sets.
The Serbian duo kicked-off the match with a 6-3 victory in the first set after converting their 4th setpoint in the 9th game. However, Mahut & Roger-Vasselin did not give up in the second set as they have won the tie-break 7-5. Super tie-break had to decide about the winner of the match and the whole tie. Djokovic & Troicki showed an important experience when they dominated in the 3rd set and won it 10-3.
Serbia secured the place between the Last 8 at the ATP Cup but they will still face Chile in the group stage on Wednesday.
