Andrey Rublev is the champion at the Bastad Open and is the second winner of the day after Stefanos Tsitsipas snared the Swiss Open Gstaad earlier on Sunday. The top seed this week, he saw off the second seed Darderi 6-4, 6-3 in just over an hour.
Rublev claimed it with 2/4 break points, 80% of first serve points won and 59% of second serve. Throughout his campaign he saw off Andrea Pellegrino 7-6, 6-7, 6-3, Sebastian Baez 6-1, 6-2 and Alejandro Tabilo 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 and now returns to the winners circle.
It is a 31st singles title for Rublev who lost earlier in the season in the final in Barcelona and his prior final before that at the Hamburg Open in Germany. His last title in fact was February last year when he won in Qatar. It is his first on clay since Madrid in May 2024.
Against the World No.18, Rublev started the better of the two in a pretty back and forth beginning. Rublev held serve as did Darderi, but it was in fact the Italian who had the earliest chances.
He could have broken for 3-2 but instead Rublev held and then it continued until the final game with no further chances until Rublev managed to break for 6-4 to claim the opening set.

A return to form for Rublev
This game him the impetus and as he went into the second, it was very much one way traffic. He broke for 2-0 and then held serve after a protracted game in which Darderi himself had opportunities to break again, but just like the first the door was shut and then Rublev opened it for himself.

Rublev is the champion.
He held for 4-1 and that early break in the set proved to be vital as he managed to hold from there without a great modicum of fuss. He went one away at 5-2 and then held serve for 6-3 to claim the title. A very good start to the clay court swing for Rublev.
Also given that both him and Tsitsipas have won titles, it is very much one to savour as both were part of the last generation of top stars and have since fallen by the wayside. While Medvedev is still middling and Zverev won a major, Tsitsipas and Rublev have fallen on harder times so both will be pleased to seal triumphs.
