Alexander Zverev is through to the
Roland Garros semifinal after defeating Davidovich Fokina 6-4 6-1 6-1.
For the German, the semifinal is the best ever result at Roland Garros, but the German aims for more despite reaching it. This year's impressive play on clay did not go unnoticed as Boris Becker called him one of the favourites heading into it. After the match Zverev confirmed his ambitions by saying:
"It's very nice being in the semi-final, but just being here doesn't satisfy me. I hope I can continue to play the same, maybe even better in the semi-finals."
Asked about the match itself he said:
"After the first set, my baseline game improved a lot and I started to dominate the points. At the beginning, I don't think I played that well. [Davidovich Fokina] has improved a lot over the past 18 months and has climbed up the [FedEx ATP Rankings]. I think I will play him a lot in the future."
Zverev will next play against Stefanos Tsitispas against whom he had a 2-5 H2H record. They played once this year in the Acapulco final and Zverev won that match 6-4 7-6(3). Their lone match on clay was won by Tsitsipas.
