Following his maiden ATP title victory at the 2023 Japan Open, American tennis player Ben Shelton and his father, former player Bryan Shelton, have joined the exclusive club of father-son duo's who've won a title on the ATP circuit in the Open Era.
The 21-year old defeated Aslan Karatsev on Sunday to win his first ATP title. The Atlanta native has been enjoying a breakout season, winning 14 of his last 16 matches on tour this year.
The Shelton's etched their name in history, as Ben lifted his first title in Tokyo whereas his father, Bryan, won the Hall of Fame Open in 1991. The pair became the fourth father-son duo to win titles on tour in the Open Era (since 1968), joining Sebastian & Petra Korda, Ramanathan & Ramesh Krishnan, and Taylor & Phil Dent.
Ben Shelton quit collegiate tennis last summer to pursue a full-time career on the ATP circuit, and has steadily risen up the ATP rankings, where he now sits at a career-high of World No.15.
