Bernard Tomic was once a Wimbledon quarterfinalist but his career was derailed after tons of things went wrong.
We won't be talking much about that but he did return to the winner's circle for the first time since 2018. The Australian won his first event in a couple of years and it happened at a 15K ITF event in Cancun. He did not drop a single set in that triumphant run and it's perhaps a testament to his commitment to tennis which he reaffirmed this year.
He admitted he wants to make things right and give it one more shot and for now it seems to be working. He shared a message after his triumph:
"One bad chapter doesn't mean that your story is over. I’ve had a lot of hate
in my life. But I can’t give up. You don’t think I see the hate
comments? It hurts. In the past I used to let
it get to me and react out of stupidity. But now I’m using it as
fuel. I’m back. I’m hungry, and I’m ready. No one can stop me now, but
me. “I’m training, I’m sweating, I’m pushing, I’m fired up. Whatever it
takes to get back on top. Hard work pays off. I’ve put my blood sweat and tears into this sport. I have come back before. It’s time to set the record straight."
