Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti have been handed the top spot in the doubles seeding for the Olympics 2024. The mega-event, which begins on July 26, will see thousands of athletes from all over the world compete to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize.
The seedings for the men’s doubles category have been released, and they surprised quite a few people. Italy’s pair of Sinner and Musetti have been handed the top seed in the doubles category. As per a famous tennis journalist Jose Morgado, that happened because of a unique rating system used by the Olympic organisers, which considered the singles rankings as well.
It is because of this that Italy’s pair, which consists of Sinner, who is the world number one in the men’s singles category, has been awarded the top seed in the doubles category. They are followed by Simone Bollei and Andrea Vavassori, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz, Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul, and Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram. Those ratings are even more interesting, considering that Italy has only won one medal in tennis at the Olympics. Interestingly, one of the strongest pairs in the doubles category, Spain’s Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz, have not been handed a top-five seeding.
In the 2020 edition of the mega-event, Croatia’s pair of Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic won the gold as they defeated fellow countrymen Marin Cilic and Ivan Dodig. In the 2016 event, it was Spain’s pair of Marc Lopez and Nadal who defeated Romania’s pair of Florin Mergea and Horia Tecau to win a gold medal for their country. In the 2012 event, it was the fair American pair of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan who came out on top in the gold medal clash against the French pair of Michael Llodra and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Olympics uses singles rankings for Men's Doubles seeding so the Italian teams will be the top 2 seeds with the singles specialists... ahead of the doubles. Quite bizarre and that can make an even more interesting doubles draw in #Paris2024
