Felix Auger-Aliassime suddenly retired after losing the second set of his match at the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam mere days after winning a title as Carlos Alcaraz faces a different opponent than expected.

The World No.23 was playing in his first match since lifting the Open Occitane title in Montpellier over the weekend and took the first set in a tie-break.

But he called over the doctor and physio before losing the second set and he suddenly forfeited the match. The commentators claimed it 'came out of nowhere'.

Auger-Aliassime, a former champion in Rotterdam who got over his title hoodoo in the city was facing Andrea Vavassori who usually mainly plays doubles and now will get to face Carlos Alcaraz.

He edged out Vavassori in the first set taking it 7-3 in a tie-break. However FAA pulled up during the second at 3-3 and got broken. In the next changeover, he called for both the physio and the doctor. The umpire quipped: "For the next changeover we need] the physio for Mr Auger-Aliassime for the toe.

"He has pain in the toe and he asked for the doctor as well."

This was confirmed by Auger-Aliassime who posted on social media after that this was the issue and that it was also a precautionary measure as Doha and Dubai are upcoming. But now gives Alcaraz a very different proposition entirely.

"Unfortunately, I had to withdraw from my match here in Rotterdam today due to a problem with my right toe that came up during yesterday’s practice. I wish it could have felt better for the match; however, I’ll have it taken care of this week. I’m sad to leave a tournament that I love early, but I hope to be fresh and ready to go for Doha coming up," he wrote on social media.
