Spain’s young tennis star
Carlos Alcaraz has achieved yet
another milestone. The 21-year-old is already regarded as one of the best
players currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category, along with
the likes of Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic.
Alcaraz has achieved yet another milestone in his young professional
career. He became the second-fastest player in the Open era to secure 200 wins in
ATP tournaments. He achieved the feat in 252 matches. He is behind America’s
John McEnroe, who achieved the feat in 245 matches. The list featured some
incredible names as well. Spain’s legendary tennis star Rafael Nadal, who is regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category, having won as many as 22 Grand Slam titles, is now third on the list as he has completed 200 wins ATP competitions in 255 matches.
Seven-time Grand Slam winner Sweden’s Mats Wilander is
fourth on the list, having registered his 200th ATP win in 256 matches. Former world number one America’s Jimmy Conners is fifth, whereas Germany’s legendary tennis star Boris Becker is sixth. Alcaraz achieved the milestone in the China Cup, where he cemented
his spot in the quarterfinal after beating Netherlands’ Tallon Griekspoor in
the round of 16 in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-2.
He is now set to
face Russia’s Karen Khachanov, who cemented his spot in the last-eight after beating
Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 7-6. It
will be the fourth meeting between the two. In the previous three meetings, the
Spaniard had a clear advantage as he emerged victorious in every one of them. Their most recent meeting was in the quarterfinal of the Madrid Open last year, where Alcaraz emerged victorious in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 7-6.
