With most of the matches in Beijing not concluded due to poor weather, only those who played under a roof were able to seal wins. One of those was
Coco Gauff who ended the day at the
China Open.
World No.6 Gauff booked her spot in the fourth round of the China Open with a 7-5, 6-2 win over No.26 seed Katie Boulter on Sunday. This in one of only four matches finished at the WTA 1000 tournament due to rain.
For instance, her match in the fourth round is due to be against either Katie Volynets or Naomi Osaka. But it has yet to be confirmed with the duo set to play tomorrow. Other ties such as Peyton Stearns v Anna Kalinskaya started but didn't conclude despite being well underway.
But playing under the roof, Gauff had the advantage and with her knack of surging through opening rounds, it was very much the script that Gauff wanted. She came through a tight first set and eased to the finish from there. She bounced back after losing a 5-2 lead and moved ahead breaking Boulter on her third set point in the 12th game. She then won eight out of the last 10 games for the win.
Aiming to sure up her serve too under new coach, Matt Daly. She recorded four holds to love as she aims to stop double faults and slips to being broken which seem to blight her game and she was pleased post match with her efforts.
"I thought I played well. I knew what I needed to do, so I tried my best to make the adjustments," Gauff said post-match.
