Novak Djokovic Australian Open 2021
Novak Djokovic is currently tied with Nadal and Federer for most majors at 20 but the Serbian desperately wants to emerge on top.
Many agree that Novak Djokovic will most likely end up with the most majors when his career is over but the Serbian is determined to make it sooner than later. Both Federer and Nadal are still active and technically could add to their major tally as well. For Djokovic, it's become somewhat of an obsession. That is according to Marion Bartoli who knows Djokovic well.
Speaking to Tennis Majors, she said:
"I think ultimately, what Novak wants is to beat the 20 Grand Slams record. I think it's the only obsession he is having and when he walked away from that defeat against Sascha, I didn't see him in a lot of anger, you know he was not massively broken down."
Speaking on Djokovic further, Bartoli said:
"The most important for him now was to beat Pete Sampras' record or finishing the year as World No. 1 and now it's just to get to 21 and 22 or more so that he makes sure that Federer and Nadal don't catch him back. I think that's going to be the only obsession he's going to have next year."
There is a got chance Djokovic will be able to do it at the Australian Open considering he has reigned supreme there for years. It all comes down to whether he plays at the event which is not yet confirmed. Many expect he will but we will know soon enough.
