Boris Becker has always held strong views on tennis and he rarely shied away from sharing them so in a recent interview he explained why Nadal and Federer should consider retirement.
Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have not played competitive tennis in a while and while their situations are quite different there are some similarities. Both have their best days behind them and both have struggled with a plethora of injuries recently. Both are trying to come back to tennis and while both have shown tremendous ability in the game it's unlikely that they can play for much longer.
That is according to Boris Becker who was a tennis player himself and understands what age does to a body of an athlete. In a talk with Eurosport he said they should seriously consider retirement:
"I think the two greats of tennis now have to think seriously about it. With Rafa it will be a bit easier than with Roger. There's no bigger Roger fan than me, but I don't know how easy it is to make another comeback after knee surgery at almost 41."
Becker doesn't sound optimistic about the prospect of them returning to top form but the German was clear in not wanting to rule it out. Only time will tell whether he was right or wrong.
