Andy Murray
withdrew from the doubles alongside
Cameron Norrie due to fatigue at the
Queen's Club Championship.
The former
world No. 1 had a perfect two weeks in Surbiton and Nottingham, winning ten
consecutive matches and capturing two consecutive challenger titles. However,
his strong start to the grass season hasn't been able to continue this week as
he returned to compete in the ATP 500 AEGON Championships.
Andy Murray
is the most successful player in Queen's Club history with five championships,
the last of which came in 2016. Murray also won the doubles trophy, partnering
with Feliciano López in 2019. However, this year he suffered a first-round loss
to Alex De Minaur by a score of 3-6, 1-6, which ends his streak of ten
consecutive wins on grass and also eliminates his chance of being seeded at
Wimbledon.
In the
doubles draw, Murray was set to compete alongside his compatriot Cameron
Norrie, and they were drawn to face the third-seeded team of Rajeev Ram and Joe
Salisbury. However, Murray decided to withdraw before the start of the match
due to fatigue, giving Andre Goransson and Ben McLachlan a spot in the doubles
draw.
The doubles
withdrawal doesn’t t mark the end of Norrie's journey at Queen's, as he is
currently in the quarterfinals of the singles draw. The world No. 13, seeded
fifth, has already advanced through the first two rounds with victories over
Miomir Kecmanovic and Jordan Thompson. In the third round, he will face the
winner of the all-American clash between Frances Tiafoe and Sebastian Korda.
