Alex de
Minaur defeated
Andy Murray in the first round of the Queen's Club Open with a
score of 6-3, 6-1.
The former
world No. 1 had been showing great form on grass courts, with a winning streak
of ten consecutive matches and two challenger titles in Nottingham and
Surbiton. On the other hand, De Minaur lost in the second round of the Libema
Open 's-Hertogenbosch last week to Tallon Griekspoor, who went on to win the
Dutch tournament.
In the
first set, Murray struggled with his serve, which De Minaur capitalized on.
With a 52% first serve percentage, the two-time Wimbledon champion only won 31%
of points on his second serve and couldn't convert any of the three break
points he faced from De Minaur.
In the
second set, Murray managed to win only 25% of his second serves, allowing De
Minaur to break him twice. The Australian's solid serving performance enabled
him to win the set 6-1 without facing any break points from the British player.
De Minaur
will now face Argentine Diego Schwartzman, who defeated Mackenzie McDonald in
the first round of the Queen's Club Open. Next challenge for Murray will be Wimbledon in two weeks.
