British tennis star Jamie Murray awarded with honorary degree from University of Stirling

Great Britain's Jamie Murray was the recipient of an honorary doctorate from University of Stirling, recognition for his contribution to Scottish and UK tennis, during the university's winter graduation ceremony on Friday

The brother of three-time Grand Slam singles champion Andy Murray, Jamie will be joining his brother Andy and mother Judy Murray as Honorary Graduates of the University of Stirling - Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence and home to the Scottish National Tennis Centre.

The Dunblane native grew up close to the University of Stirling, and was coached by his mother Judy during his early years. Jamie and Andy both trained at the Scottish National Tennis Centre, which served as the graduation hall for the University of Stirling’s winter ceremony.

"I'm very proud to receive an honorary degree from the University of Stirling and it is particularly special to me to be in the hall which normally serves as the National Tennis Centre - a place where I started my tennis journey," said Jamie Murray. "I have fond memories of playing here and learning new skills as a young boy, and to be back to share this day with so many others who have experienced the power of sport to change and improve lives is incredible. It is an honor to be recognized by Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence."

Jamie has won 32 ATP Tour doubles titles. Additionally, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2016 Birthday Honors for services to tennis and charity. In 2023, he was named tournament director of the 2024 cinch Championships at the Queen’s Club.
