Brooksby and Nishikori move on at Citi Open Washington

Kei Nishikori and Jenson Brooksby move on at the Citi Open in Washington following strong victories vs Felix Auger-Aliassime and Cameron Norrie.

Jenson Brooksby continued his ascension to tennis stardom with another strong performance on native soil as the American took down Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets. The Canadian continued his up and down season where performances range from brilliant to abysmal. Today was more of a bad one but Brooksby played great.

The American took an early 3-0 lead in the first set and he held it for the remainder of the set 6-3. Brooksby continued playing well in the 2nd set winning it 6-4. He served well and won the vast majority of points on his serve. He faced only two breaks points and saved both of them.

Joining Brooksby in the next round will be Kei Nishikori who was able to battle past Cameron Norrie. It did not start well for Nishikori who found himself on the back foot after playing some stellar tennis in the previous round. The Brit was able to win the opening set with 6-3.

Nishikori came back in the 2nd set after fending off some initial attacks by Norrie. He held his serve and then broke Norrie at the perfect time to win the 2nd set 6-3. He took broke Norrie to take a 3-2 lead in the final set after which the Brit called for a MTO.

Nishikori finished off the match with a 6-3 final set win against a hampered Norrie. Good continuation of results for Nishikori after picking up some form at the Olympics.
