Belinda Bencic and
Barbora Krejcikova joined a list of players that withdrew from the National Bank Open in Montreal.
The list includes players like Naomi Osaka, Sofia Kenin and Iga Swiatek and now the field is left withouth Bencic and Krejcikova. While so many pullouts were not a surprise it is a problem for the Organizers who were hoping to stage an event with all the best players attending.
Naomi Osaka practically confirmed her appearance only to withdraw a few days later. Sofia Kenin has been dealing with an injury while Iga Swiatek wanted to take some rest. A similar thing is probably the reason for Belinda Bencic who played a lot of tennis in Tokyo.
The Swiss player reached the finals in both the singles and doubles winning a gold and silver medal. Considering the extreme conditions players faced in Tokyo wanting a bit of rest with the US Open looming is expected. Barbora Krejcikova won the doubles gold medal in Tokyo defeating Bencic in the final.
She too wants some rest ahead of Cincinnati and the US Open with the Czech player playing an event days before flying to Tokyo. The event starts on Monday, August 9th with Aryna Sabalenka as the top seed.
