Denis Shapovalov is in a fierce battle with several other tennis players for a spot at the ATP Finals in Turin hence why today's performance against Cam Norrie was a shocking one. The Canadian scored a very good win over Taylor Fritz in the previous round but today faced an opponent that defeat him once this season already.
And it happened again, this time even easier for Norrie. The start of the match was great for Shapovalov as he served rather well winning his service games with ease. Norrie was the one who had to work harder to get himself over the line but that suddenly changed. Towards the end of the set, Shapovalov started missing his serve.
That opened him up to Norrie on his 2nd serve and the Brit was clinical. He won 8 of 12 of those points to score two quick breaks and clinch the first set with 6-3. The 2nd set was even quicker for Norrie who once again attacked Shapovalov on his 2nd serve. The Canadian won only 3 of 8 of those rallies and doomed him.
Norrie was spectacular on his own serve hitting it 88 % of the time dropping only 4 of those points in the whole 2nd set. He only faced one break point in the whole match closing it out with 6-3 to move on at the San Diego Open.
