A couple of interesting matches happened today at the
Chicago Fall Tennis Classic seeing
Elena Rybakina dumping out
Belinda Bencic as Jabeur survives a shaky start to beat Svitolina.
Ons Jabeur squeezed past Jessica Pegula in the previous round with shaky play overall but the Tunisian player was much better today against Svitolina. She had a rough start today falling behind 1-4 against Svitolina who was looking impressive early on. However not soon after that things fell apart for Svitolina.
Jabeur started playing better while Svitolina found it increasingly hard to do anything right. Jabeur won the first set with 6-4 and after that continued playing well while Svitolina was all over the place. Most of the damage came on her 2nd serve with Jabeur playing well overall and closing it out with 6-4 6-2.
Joining her in the 2nd round will be Elena Rybakina who exacted revenge for the Olympic Games loss to Belinda Bencic. Rybakina has been playing very good tennis lately and today she was able to control the negatives of her game rather well. After a strong campaign in New York, Bencic regressed a bit with early exits in Ostrava and Luxembourg and that plagued her today as well.
Rybakina was able to win the opening set with 6-3 and but that was only the beginning of what would be a very bad ending for today's match. Down 3-1 in the 2nd set Bencic tumbled on the court clutching her right knee immediately calling the physio. The sight looked bad after some painful grimacing Bencic retired from the match. The severity of the injury is unknown but it did not look too good.
