With the US Open starting on August 26, withdrawals have begun to flood in ahead of the draw taking place at the end of next week. Both Cameron Norrie and Marketa Vondrousova will not play any part in proceedings withdrawing on Friday night.
Francisco Comesana and Petra Martic move into the men's and women's draws respectively. Lloyd Harris and Nao Hibino are the first players out of the main draws.
Norrie in particular suffered a forearm injury which hasn't recovered as he had hoped and it is the latest damning injury for the Brit. The same can be said for Vondrousova who was off colour at Wimbledon after getting injured in the weeks leading up.
She also then missed the Olympics due to injury with the writing firmly on the wall and she has now withdrawn. This year prior Karolina Muchova was the Czech player with injury issues and now the baton seems to have been passed onto Vondrousova.
"I have been working hard to get my body to full health - unfortunately my forearm injury is not recovering as soon as I would have hoped. Therefore I will not be able to compete in this year’s US Open. I’ll take some rest and recharge. Can’t wait to get back to competing like a dog," said Norrie on Instagram.
