Cameron Norrie has enjoyed a lot of success in 2021 and he hopes some of that translates to the biggest events in 2022.
Norrie who will contest the
Indian Wells final hopes that the success he has had in the desert helps him elevate his game to the next level. The Brit reached 6 finals overall in 2021 and while he did not win the majority of them (only 1) he hopes those experiences can lift him to new heights in 2022. The goal for Norrie is Grand Slam success and on that he said:
"I’ve had some opportunities there to make the second week of a slam,
but it’s not gone my way. It’s
all been great learning for me. Hopefully, with these results I can put
myself in a higher seeding there, then maybe have some more chances."
Norrie faced Roger Federer in Wimbledon and while he put up a valiant fight he was no match for Federer who got the win in the end. He also faced Nadal twice in Grand Slams losing both in Australia and at the French Open. Norrie thinks those experiences will suit him well going forward:
"I’ve faced some pretty decent players this year in the third round [at the slams]. Those experiences have been great for me, those big matches."
First, he will need to make sure to win the BNP Paribas Open against Basilashvili today and if he does he will have plenty of time to celebrate and plan out his 2022 year. Nobody expected even these hights for Norrie but hard work pays off.
