Cameron Norrie nearly threw away the win against Holger Rune in Lyon but the Brit was able to rally in time to win in three 6-2 5-7 6-4.
The start of the match was dominated by Norrie who was very sharp in this match generally. Rune was not focused at all opting to complain after every single rally. He finally started to focus a bit more towards the end fo the set and he was able to avoid a bagel getting one break back. In the 2nd set, Rune suffered an early loss of serve still complaining to his parents in the stands.
Eventually, though Norrie gave him a chance and the Norwegian was able to take the break back which injected him with a lot of confidence. Norrie was rattled a bit and he rushed quite a bit towards the end of the set giving Rune break points which he took to win the 2nd 7-5. Early in the 2nd set, Rune was the better player than Norrie.
He was quite comfortable on his own serve attacking and shortening the rallies. Norrie was happy to play longer ones but after having cramps yesterday, Rune was not interested at all. It worked for a better part of the final set but he failed to get the breakthrough needed during that time. Towards the end, he started missing more and it destroyed his chances when he lost his serve at 4-4. Norrie went on to finish the match 6-4.
