The
Canadian Open is due to take place between August 1 - August 13, 2026 in what is the 136th edition of this tournament and is part of a pair of tournaments in the men's tournament which takes place at the IGA Stadium in Montreal.
It is a mandatory Masters 1000 event on the 2026 tour with Ben Shelton being the defending champion. Alexander Zverev is the top seed with Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alex de Minaur among others also involved. Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have decided to withdraw.
The
WTA tournament is in the same week and takes place as a parallel event in Toronto. That sees most of the top seeds on display in comparison to the men's event.

Predictions Canadian Open ATP
Samuel Gill, Head Editor for TennisUpToDate.com sees Ben Shelton retaining the title.
Ben Shelton for me will retain the title. As my colleague notes there isn't a surplus of top names involved and so it makes it a bit more difficult to pick.
Shelton for me has been in semi good form and I have him alongside a few others that I see perhaps finding their way into the latter stages this week.
Of course Alexander Zverev for a start being top seed and I also see good runs for Felix Auger-Aliassime and Rafa Jodar.
*** Ben Shelton
** Alexander Zverev, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Rafa Jodar
Lucas Michael, Editor for TennisUpToDate.com has picked Taylor Fritz for the title.
Normally, picking the winner of a Masters 1000 competition is easy. I would list down a lot of contenders before picking one of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner to taste glory. This year’s Canadian Open is different, following in the footsteps of last year.
If Sinner was competing, I would have picked him, but now there is a huge opportunity for someone to taste glory. For the first time since Valentin Vacherot at the Shanghai Masters, the Italian will not win. This leaves Alexander Zverev in pole position. He has already proven he can step up to the task, most notably at Roland Garros, and will be hard to beat.
Reigning champion Ben Shelton will not win it for me, and I worry a big ranking drop will come based on his form on the big stage this year. I think the main contenders include Felix Auger-Aliassime, Taylor Fritz and possibly Daniil Medvedev, although I’ve given up predicting the Russian based off his inconsistent form.
An outside shot is Rafael Jodar. He would be a huge surprise winner, but he has the capabilities to go on and win the title. However, his DC Open run may leave him fatigued. I can also see Jack Draper make an impact, but his health concerns me greatly.
For the winner, I am going to hedge my bets with Fritz to win a title in 2026 at the fifth time of asking.
*** Taylor Fritz
** Alexander Zverev, Rafael Jodar
* Felix Auger-Aliassime, Daniil Medvedev, Jack Draper
