Following his victory over
Daniil Medvedev at the
ATP Finals,
Carlos Alcaraz has secured his position as World No.2 on the ATP Rankings table.
The 20-year old recorded a 6-4 6-4 victory over Medvedev in their round robin ATP Finals group stage encounter, ensuring his qualification for the semifinals at the event. Having lost to Alexander Zverev in his first match, Alcaraz required a win against his Russian opponent to secure his passage to the final four.
Alcaraz to finish year as World No.2
The Spaniard was in contention for the year-end World No.1 ranking, having held the position after winning his maiden Grand Slam title at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships. A semifinal loss at the US Open saw Alcaraz relinquish the position to Novak Djokovic, but the 20-year old was in hot pursuit. However, his subpar performance during the Asian Swing and Paris Masters saw Djokovic clinch the year-end No.1 ranking.
Nonetheless, Alcaraz wound up clinching the year-ending World No.2 ranking after qualifying for the semifinals at the ATP Finals in Turin. He will face World No.1 Novak Djokovic in another highly-anticipated battle, as both men have left fans speechless following their memorable matches.
